Night Photography Outings in Chicago & Suburbs

Capture the enchantment and excitement of the night by photographing Chicago and the suburbs after dark. From the glorious marquee of Downer Grove’s Tivoli Theatre to the Riverwalk in Naperville, streaks of trains and traffic, glowing street lights and signs, stimulating night life to a peaceful neighborhood cemetery.  (Gift Cards for this photo outing are available.)

We hold outings in a growing number for towns:

During this night photography outing, your instructor will begin with a short lesson on photographing at night, including composition, white balance, and exposure. Students who stay with the group will be able to get additional guidance.

The photo outing lasts two-and-a-half hours. We begin a little before dark when the sky is still blue—the perfect time to capture the colorful lights against a twilight sky. Then, as the sky darkens, we’ll walk around the town, making discoveries and shooting as we go.

For greatest enjoyment, you should be fairly comfortable with your camera and know how it works so that you can better enjoy the experience. Night photography requires that you understand your camera enough to control your camera in a way that’s different from is different and you’ll need to access some features that you wouldn’t normally use during daylight hours. Please read the Class Requirements for this course.

Outing Agenda

  • The meetup location will be announced once you are accepted into the course.
  • We will shoot for approximately 2.5 hours and, if some people are up to it, we’ll go out for food or drinks.
